We are so excited to be the sponsors of this year’s, Australian House & Garden Top 50 Rooms. It is an honour to support such a celebration of Australia’s best interiors.
Now in its 16th year, Top 50 Rooms is about celebrating excellence in design. It is a window into beautifully resolved interiors, revealing the details behind a truly beautiful room, and reinforcing trends along the way.
Sydney’s Alpha Restaurant was the perfect (and delicious) setting to launch the 2014 Top 50 Rooms issue. Industry elite eagerly awaited the unveiling of the year’s 50 best rooms as well as the presentation of the inaugural Room of the Year award.
These residential projects, by designers and architects at the top of their game, showcase the principles that make a room great — along with plenty of bold new moves too.
So what does the 2014 crop bring to the table?
BEST USE OF COLOUR
Dianne Bergeron Interiors
“It’s a versatile space” says the owner. “In the daytime I’ll read in the sun; in the evening it’s the perfect space to share wine with friends.”
BEST USE OF SOFT FURNISHINGS
Coco Republic Interior Design
“The rich colours and textures create the high-end, opulent feel of a boutique hotel” said the owners.
BEST USE OF MATERIALS
“I love the different materials,” says the owner. “It has a beautiful connection to the northern outdoor living spaces, so the room is filled with sunlight.”
BEST INDOOR/OUTDOOR CONNECTION
Mary Ellen Hudson Architects
“I love this room for many reasons,” says the owner. “The lofty ceiling, the recycled timber, the fireplace and the curved wall are just a few.”
ROOM OF THE YEAR
“The room is central to all that goes on in our family,” says the owner. “In this one room we can eat, work, cook, entertain, relax and welcome friends.”
Congratulations to winners and all entrants for showcasing some truly spectacular rooms. Particular congratulations of course go to Arent&Pyke who took out the prestigious Room of the Year award with their serene lounge room (above). On the judging panel was our own Cameron Warwick, he said of the room, “I love this room because there are so many layers of colour. It’s really striking. Everything’s bold and quite stunning”.
