“I have said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.”
Coco Chanel

Black and white is timeless – in art, photography, fashion and design. No other colour combination has stood the test of time quite like black and white. Despite having the ability to photograph in colour, we continue to utilise black and white photography because it has a magic, mood and romance that can’t be captured in colour.

This is the same for in our homes. The high-contrast of black and white is a bold combination that packs a powerful interior décor punch. The sophistication, glamour, security, and substance of black, combined with the simplicity, purity, and clarity of white, creates a bold statement that is greater than when used separately.

So, you can create a bold statement, or they can be used as the base for another feature colour. As black and white are considered neutral; they work back seamlessly with all colours, as well as having the effect of making colours appear more vibrant and luminous in comparison.

Black and white inspiration is all around us—from nature (a zebra’s stripes, a birds feathers, the trunk of a birch tree), to old Hollywood films and fashion, to black-and-white photography and patterns we encounter in our everyday lives (think crossword puzzles, bathroom tiles and the pages of our favourite novels).

This is a colour combination which will never go out of fashion. As Karl Lagerfeld once said, “Black-and-white always looks modern”.

Embracing this modern, yet timeless colour palette, we have developed the ‘Monochrome’ collection, a homage to the two ‘non-colours’.
